Food is happiness…food is love.

“I love you!” says the tomato to the…er, tomato.

Every few months I’ve discovered that I go on a cyclical phase where I reaffirm why I do something (anything, really) on an extended basis.

Why continue doing this?  What’s the point?

If I can answer that with honesty and with at least the same degree of passion as I started, then everything’s cool.  I feel reaffirmed that I’m doing something meaningful in my own little world.

This blog recently passed my seasonal introspection.

 

Anchovy Pasta with Shrimp

The one thing to watch with ideas is that they come unexpectedly. You could be sitting inside a restaurant basking happily away from work when bam… it comes. And because adversity is the mother of invention, it would be the time when you have a pen with nothing to write on but tissue paper. That, your hand, or the little quarter sheet of pad a helpful waiter offers you.

So you doodle on the pad, and furiously too. You know that the shimmer of inspiration lingers unpredictably and is often forgotten at the first sign of a new distraction. The paper fills quickly on the first few minutes and you eagerly switch to steno font. Erasures strewn on the page boldly accuse you. And the first distraction comes with effortless ease.

The Anchovy Pasta with Shrimp has arrived. And it immediately takes your nose captive. The eyes follow, and the mind now struggles with the will to stare, to write, to think or to forget everything and eat.
