“I hear all this talk about organic farming, and the environment and things, and I’m all for it. But there must be a certain sophistication.”
KARL LAGERFELD, creative director of Chanel
Lest this conjures images of Queen Marie Antoinette and the completely mythical cake comment, he did say this appropriately in the 2009 Paris Fashion Week.
I do think he has a point. If people can somehow farm vegetables in a pristine white polo, snug jeans and a native brim hat all day long and look as fresh at dinner as at dawn, then by all means do so. Or put in a local context, if tilling dirt and caring for chickens, carabaos and other farm objects can look like an Amorsolo scene every single day, it would be truly idyllic.
Of course it would be nice if everyone can be cute, beautiful and artistic at every moment. But I’m sure other mortals can be forgiven if their talents lie on other things.
But for the fashionista suffering from the soullessness of commercialism, rejoice. Karl understands it seems. Now, with the enlightened guidance of Chanel, modern conveniences such as fastfood need no longer be a tragedy.
