PLATE: Maiden Issue

Kian presents some of the dishes at his family's Persian restaurant.

It’s Kian.

That’s right, the “Guess Who?” actor I featured in my blog entry a while back, is our featured guest on the first issue of Diarito Plate.

Diarito Plate or Plate, is a magazine that talks about food in merienda-sized (snack) servings.

On its pages are (hopefully) entertaining quick-reads on the latest in food science and culture, ingenious recipes, smart ways to shop and handle kitchen matters.  Whether your role calls for a flawless host or a magic-waving cook, we’ve tried our best at Plate to make things fun and easy for you. It’s free, with the costs shouldered by sponsors.

But Plate takes the professional standards of journalism very seriously.  The “free” concept is actually an offshoot of the publisher’s media literacy advocacy, which I’ll discuss in greater depth later on.

Plate can be accessed not only in print but also online through its website, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and livestreaming.

Aside from food, on the website are magazines on news and current events (Diarito News), sports and travel (Rush) as well as babies and parenting (Kids).

There are more projects in the pipeline, which I hope to announce soon.

Guess Who?

first guest

I interviewed this actor a few days back.  We talked about food–his top favorites, the restaurant he owns, authentic dishes and how his family makes it, hosting a travel show, being an adventurous foodie and yes, dieting.

Can you guess who he is?

It’s pleasantly surprising how he knows his way around words.  He described his latest food foray–lumpia with native chocolate, fruits, nuts–in a way that made me salivate, even in work-mode.  And while he appreciates frankness, he can use euphemisms for “politically incorrect” terms enough to make me curious as to who is better at it.  Heh.

Another clue: he is currently part of a very popular soap opera.

The interview is for Plate, a new venture on food by Diarito Publishing.
