In a few hours I’ll be back to Tagaytay. This time though, as it’s the culmination of Lent, I’ll be on a retreat. That means that I can’t post about actual, physical, bite-me-i’m-hungry food this week. Let me speak plainly. If you’re Catholic (or Christian, as far as I know), there are certain things you do in Holy Week, that will make imagining too much of food–it’s tastes, scents, textures, colors, etc.–be downright torture. Unless maybe it’s really your form of penance.
It’s not mine.
On the other hand, I do fast. But from a purely foodie perspective, I don’t see this or abstaining from particular foods as a bad thing. Quite the contrary, I discovered that it heightens my senses to the point where I can taste more.
Even from a simple thing such as plain white bread. I don’t usually notice how sweet it is, or how the texture is so soft while I chew. Read the rest of this entry »
