Mars Cuts Down 15% Fat


Take note, that’s SATURATED fat.  Apparently the trend of dieting has reached the chocolate industry.  Mars the company swears that they’ll taste the same as the old Mars chocolate bar.  What I’m curious about though, is if it makes the new bars more “wholesome” to eat than the old one.  If it does then that’s really a great improvement! Oh, and did you know that the Mars brand also produces three Pet food products: Pedigree, Whiskas and Royal Canin? That surprised me, since I’ve used all three (I wonder why Royal Canin doesn’t give allergy to my dog but Pedigree does then?).

Godiva is for Divas

“It’s just like Ferrero…only ten times better.”

“Hello. May I help you?”  A man asks with a gentle smile from behind a glass counter.

“Oh, hi. I’m trying to decide what I want.”  My eyes look up absently before going back to intensely studying the little brown balls behind the glass.

“Is this the first time you’re trying our chocolates?”

Wow, talk about transparent.  And it was certainly the best way to get my focus from cocoa.  ”Yes!  I want to treat myself.  What are your bestsellers?”

“Well, we have the very, very dark chocolate bars over there beside this counter and the solid white milk chocolate ones.”

“They have nothing inside?”

He shook his head.

“Ohh.  But I like surprises.”  I said, pouting a little.

“Then I’m sure you’ll like our pralines or truffles, which have fruits, nuts or liqueur inside,” he said while gesturing at the chocolates before me.  ”The praline is a bit nuttier and chunkier while the truffles are smoother and contain more chocolate.”

“Then I’ll definitely have the truffles!”  I replied, grinning.  If my eyes sparkled like a kid unleashed in a toy store, then I blame it on the chic lighting.

He gave me this strangely approving smile and continued to answer my “feeling-based” questions with admirable clarity.  I chose the Double Chocolate Raspberry, Smooth Coconut, Strawberry, Original Dark and Champagne Truffles.

“And for your last truffle, what would you like?”

“I would like you to choose something for me.  A surprise.”  Obviously, by now I was really enjoying myself.  His eyes considered me for a few seconds before putting something with nuts inside the gold bag.

“What did you choose?”  I asked, unable to stop myself.

For the first time, I saw him falter a bit.  ”It’s…a nutty truffle.”  And then the suave aura was back.  ”I gave you the Hazelnut Praline.  The outside is covered in hazelnuts and the inside has a peanut-butter consistency.  It’s just like Ferrero only ten times better.”

“Oooooh!”

When your friendly shop attendant tells you that, you know that you’re not just in any store.  And if there are one or two things I realized after entering a Godiva Chocolatier shop, it is that chocolate quality goes hand-in-hand with the conversation style.
